7. Annette Messager

4

Annette Messager is known for her installation work of which includes; photography, print, drawings and various other materials. I have loved Annette Messager's work since I came across it and found more about her. In my second year at college I chose to study fashion in one of my block and I had used her as an artist as a source of inspiration. I came out with a dress that was rimmed with photographs of parts of my face and then used thread as she uses both thread and pictures of women or just the human form in general. Her work mostly revolves around women and women tackling their insecurities in life, such as: being a women itself, the 'housewife' role, being a good mother/wife and the most insecurities woment face, their image. Most of her work includes photographs of body parts of women to show the subject of their insecurities.

I find her work very interesting as she uses old clothes and objects and doesn't stick to one specialism, she broadens the art world. Most of her pieces are quite sinister but beautiful in its own right. When you first look at the work of Annette Messager you instantly think it's quite depressing and you aren't sure what she is trying to convey, but after researching into this artist I have developed a love for her and he work and the message she is trying to bring out.
